About Us

Welcome to Painting Together!   My name is Carol King and I’m the artist/teacher.

My purpose for these courses is to make learning to paint both simple and fun.

I remember going to art school and  taking courses in drawing and art.  Often the nitty gritty of the lesson is hard to navigate but along the way I had some fabulous teachers.  Learning from some of my favorites, I prefer to teach in an  easygoing way that is informative,  but low pressure.

I have been teaching art for 20 years to children, adults and groups.  In that time of interacting with students, I have learned effective ways of communicating how to use a technique or create a certain effect in a painting.  I currently teach a lot of live classes in the Knoxville  area and truly enjoy teaching.   I created this website to hopefully pass along  the tips and tricks I’ve learned to my students in a relaxing fun way that lets you end up with a painting!

BIO:

Carol’s love of art began as a child in Argentina where she was born and raised as a daughter of foreign missionaries which fashioned her with deep values, faith, and a love for God’s creation  as well as a drive to represent it in visual art.

“I think I was born to be an artist. My Mother would say I had “ants in my pants” (now more kindly known as hyperactivity) but as early as age 3, she said a piece of paper and pencil or colors would make me sit still for a little bit.  My emotional connection to art has always been very strong. I’m driven to paint, it’s something God  put deep inside me that has to come out.  Even when I’m not drawing, I’m thinking about it and sketching in my mind or thinking what colors I would use to paint something I see as I’m driving down the road.”

Art is a big part of education in Argentina which fed Carol’s artistic tendencies.  Eventually she was able to attend 3 years of professional Art School in Buenos Aires.     Painting portraits and commissions helped with expenses from my teens, through college and beyond.

” I think art should be positive.  Quiet times, pleasant memories and peaceful places are what I strive to capture in my art.  When I choose a subject, my main goal is to bring the viewer a moment of peace in a hectic day or a pleasant memory to lift their spirit.    I am inspired by people in everyday life, animals and the beauty of nature, particularly my beloved Smoky Mountains.  I sometimes paint children in my works to help bring the viewer back to those simple times when life was new, innocent and not so complicated.”

In recent years, along with creating, Carol has been privileged to serve as  President of the Tennessee Artists Association and on the board of the Tennessee Watercolor Society.  She has had the privilege of teaching art classes for children and adults.

Currently Carol teaches in person classes at    at Tellico Village Art Guild in Louden, TN,  at the Townsend Art Center in Townsend, TN as well as at Jerry’s Artarama in Knoxville, TN.  Currently her work can be seen at  various  venues through the East Tennessee area.

While her primary media is watercolors, Carol works and teaches in various other mediums including acrylics, and plaster relief -3D art.   She currently reside in Kodak, Tn.

She is available for special Commissions and Hand Painted Pet Portraits in acrylic.
